Best known for his eponymous fashion label, Kenzo Takada revolutionised the fashion world in the 1970s, bringing lively colour, a new sense of proportion and a cheeky pop sensibility to the industry. After retiring from his fashion house in 1999, in 2005 Takada turned to tableware, home objects and furniture, as well as carpet design for Tai Ping. In his Rêves d’Orient collection for Tai Ping, Takada illustrates the critical intersection between fashion and design, where couture meets custom hand-tufted carpets. The patterns are complex and layered, evoking a luxurious, gracious and fashionable lifestyle.
